If you can’t easily describe a bet to your friend, then it’s probably not a good idea to place that bet. Trust us on this one.
YesPlay offers tons of different bets: live, prematch, top events, future events, soccer, basketball, cricket, tennis, rugby, ice hockey, table tennis, and much more. If you’re new, it might feel like you’re drowning since there are so many to choose from.
Where to begin
Start with one market, just pick the one that you find most familiar. Usually on YesPlay event cards you see markets like 1×2, totals, handicap, and other markets, but it’s best to start with the ones that you understand the most. You really don’t want to throw away your money on bets you don’t understand.
A smart thing to do would be to pick one sport you enjoy watching and one market type you know how to bet on. For a lot of South Africans soccer will feel like a natural pick, but if you’re more into basketball or tennis that’s great too. YesPlay shows odds in decimal format, so if you see 2.12, it means that a R29 bet will bring you R61.48 if it wins. And make sure to read more on the Sports page to see what’s what, and figure out what the live side is all about. This will save you from making silly mistakes.
What catches rookies
Many people bet on all markets the same way and often get burned when they find out that not all sports are the same. On soccer, YesPlay says bets are only valid for the first 90 minutes including stoppage time, meaning that extra time and penalties don’t count unless mentioned in the market. Many people lose their bets because of it.
The second mistake most players make is treating every live price like a bargain. If the match is dynamic and constantly changing, the price is probably not worth it. Rugby, for example, has a rule that the standard match bets are settled after 80 minutes of play, and this doesn’t include extra time. So make sure to read the market label carefully, and double-check the rules before betting.
If you know how to read the codes and if you know how sports betting works, you’re going to cook!
